An electric kettle gets used more times a day than anything else in a Kenyan kitchen. Morning chai, visitors, uji for the children, hot water for washing up when the geyser is down. It is also the appliance people replace most often, usually because they bought on price alone and the element failed inside a year. There are five Sayona kettles in stock right now. They all run at 1500W, so wattage is not the thing to compare. What separates them is capacity, whether the body is glass or steel, and one safety detail that matters more than any of it.

What actually matters when you choose

💧
Capacity: 1.5L or 1.8L
Boiling more water than you need costs electricity every single morning. For one or two people, 1.5 liters is enough — roughly six mugs. For a family or a flask, take 1.8 liters.
🪨
Glass or stainless steel
Glass keeps tea tasting clean with no plastic note, and lets you see scale building up early. Steel takes the knocks of a busy kitchen and does not crack if it meets a tap.
👋
The cool-touch handle
On a steel kettle the body gets hot. A cool-touch handle is not a luxury in a house with children — it is the single detail worth paying extra for.
🔒
Auto shut-off and boil-dry protection
Auto shut-off stops it at boil. Boil-dry cuts power if it is switched on empty. Every kettle here has both. A kettle without them is not worth the saving.

Wattage is not the differentiator
All five run at 1500W. The smaller kettle boils faster simply because there is less water in it, not because it is more powerful.
💧
Scale, and how you deal with it
Kenyan tap water leaves scale. Boil equal parts water and white vinegar once a month, leave an hour, rinse well. A glass body lets you see when it is due.

Questions people ask

Which kettle is best for a small household?

The 1.5 liter Sayona SK-2438 1.5L Glass Kettle at KSh 1,700. It boils faster than the 1.8 liter models because there is less water to heat, and over a year of daily use that difference is real money.

Is a glass kettle safe?

Yes. These use borosilicate — the same glass family as laboratory and oven glassware — specifically because it tolerates rapid temperature change. It will not crack from normal boiling. Like any glass it can break if dropped or knocked hard against a tap.

How do I get rid of the white scale inside?

Fill with equal parts water and white vinegar, boil, leave for an hour, then rinse well and boil once with clean water before use. Once a month is plenty for most Kenyan tap water.

What is Strix control?

Strix is the manufacturer of the thermostat and safety cut-out used in premium kettles worldwide. The Sayona SK-2248 2L Electric Kettle with Strix Control uses a genuine Strix unit, which is why it is specified separately.

Why is the cheapest kettle stainless steel and not glass?

Glass costs more to make in a shape that tolerates repeated boiling. The Sayona SK-2434 1.8L Brushed Stainless Steel Kettle at KSh 1,100 is the cheapest because brushed steel is the cheaper body, not because anything else has been cut.

Do these come with a warranty?

Yes. Every unit carries a one-year warranty against manufacturing defects from the date of purchase, and is backed by our Nairobi service center.

If you are replacing a kettle that died inside a year, the thing that killed it was almost certainly boiling dry or scale on the element. Both are covered here. Buy the capacity that matches your household rather than the biggest one, and clean it monthly.

Everything above is genuine, carries a one-year warranty against manufacturing defects, and is backed by our Nairobi service centre and genuine spare parts. We deliver to every county in Kenya, same day within Nairobi if you order before noon, and you can pay by M-Pesa, by card, or spread the cost with Lipa Pole Pole.
